Samuel Whitney Jackson
Samuel Whitney Jackson was born at Augusta, Canada on December 13th, 1846. He was the son of George Jackson (1803-1908) and Jane Whitney (1810-1877). He grew up in Canada and came to Ionia County around 1871. He was a well known farmer and hoop maker. On December 25th, 1878, he was united in marriage with Julia Schindle. There were ten children, Hester, Joe, George, Augustus, Sarah, Ben, Mary, Florence, Loretta, and Samuel A. (Bert) . Samuel Jackson died at his home in Campbell Twp. on December 4th, 1928. Julia Jackson died in 1934. Both were buried at the Clarksville Cemetery in Clarksville, Michigan. Samuel Jackson's family account for the largest Jackson population in Ionia County today. Samuel Jackson was one of 12 children, 9 of which came to Ionia County. Edward Jackson (1838-1925), brother to Samuel, was the first Jackson to settle in Ionia County, having located in Campbell Twp. in 1869.
