The Clarksville - Campbell Historical was formed with the purpose to dedicate itself to the preservation of Clarksville and Campbell Township. Campbell Township was settled over 170 years ago by brothers, Martin and Jeremiah Campbell, and this family remained one of the only families if not the only family in the township until 1847. The town of Clarksville was born in 1875. It was named after a man named Clark Howard, who lived in the same general vicinity as the Campbell's and operated a small one room store. Soon afterwards, Mr. Howard secured a post office at the corners between section 3 and section 10. The railroad came through the south end of town in 1887 and many of the businesses considered relocating closer, however this did not happen. In respects to the history of Ionia County, Campbell Township was the last settled township in the county.

About Us - The Clarksville - Campbell Historical Society was organized in 2001. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at the Clarksville Village Hall which is located at 162 South Main St. Meeting time is 7:00 P.M. This is a young organization with a team of dedicated ambitious members and is destined to grow. We look forward to seeing you at our meetings and welcome your ideas and participation with our future endeavors. Come join us and become a part of a great group of people, working together to achieve results. We still have some postcards and photos at the Clarksville Hardware. Also a booklet "Pieces from our Past" - Untold Stories Of Campbell Township. The booklets are $5.00 also at the hardware. We also have a display case at Papa C's Pizzeria and Ice Cream shop on Main Street.
