The George Jackson Family Reunion

The first George Jackson family reunion was held at Lake Odessa, Michigan on August 31st, 1922. Joe Jackson was elected president, and Ray Jackson, vice president, and Roy Jackson, secretary and treasurer. Mrs. Emma Clemens, Miss Bertha Thorpe, and William Frey, were put on the committee for program and sports. Around 175 were in attendance for a bountiful dinner which was preceded by prayer by John Knapp. Several families from Canada were in attendance, while others came from places such as Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ionia, Barryton, Remus, Lapeer, Coats Grove, Owosso, Imlay City, and Saranac, Michigan, and Bedford, and Wharton, Ohio. All were descendants of George Jackson who lived to the ripe old age of 104 years.

Other reunions within the George Jackson Family were held at Lake Orion, Michigan, while earlier reunions were held in Sarnia, Ontario. Prior to this, The George Jackson family gatherings were held on George Jackson's birthday The first photograph of the George Jackson family was taken at Morrison Lake, in Ionia County, Michigan. This photograph is dated around 1902. The most memorable photograph was taken at the home of Samuel Jackson on Jackson  Rd. in Campbell Township, Ionia County, Michigan. This photograph was taken on October 17th, 1903, one day before George Jackson's 100th birthday. It was said that the party was held on that day for fear that he might die before his 100th birthday, however he lived long past his 104th birthday

OUR JACKSON FAMILY REUNION IN CANADA

The Pipers playing at the historic gathering of the Christopher & George Jackson

families in Canada in 2000

In 1995, I located the descendants of Christopher Stroud Jackson ( 1801-1876 ), brother to George Jackson

( 1803-1908 ). It was not long after that annual reunions were organized and have been traditional held around Labour Day. This has also become known as the traveling reunion, as it has been held at many places in Canada such as Schomberg, Ontario, Crysler, Ontario, and St. Anicet, Quebec. The reunion at St. Anicet was held at the home of Wayne & Marilyn Jackson. Wayne runs a fine dairy farm  not far from the Ontario and New York border. This reunion was complete with pipers who played many tunes throughout the time of this gathering.  Any descendants of Christopher and George Jackson are welcome to this event. The 2003 location has not been decided upon yet, so keep watch at this site for further details.

Jackson and his brother Edward L. Jackson, sons of Edward W. Jackson ( 1838-1925). The reunion is held in early July. Check this site later on for 2003 date.
